Or was it?
A band of unlikely adventurers embark upon an epic quest in this first book in a four-part series, battling minotaurs, demons, orcs, and wraiths—and occasionally themselves.
Surely they must prevail…because the very balance of power in the land requires it.
In Dragma’s Keep, Vance Pumphrey weaves a lyrical and magical tapestry that sets the stage and whets the appetite for the next adventurous fantasies that comprise his Valdaar’s Fist series. Dragma’s Keep is the first in the Valdaar’s Fist quartet.

“Author keeps you in suspense… Lots of surprises…”
“…Epic story continues! …Highly recommend”
“I am done… this book was amazing!”

Or was it?
The legend of Valdaar’s Fist survived many years even after it was reported destroyed in ages long since passed. Trapped and facing an array of evil beings in the underground labyrinth of Dragma’s Keep, our heroes forged friendships and trust.
Having survived that first test, they now face an even greater challenge—ever-changing, counterintuitive solutions to the complex puzzles of the mysterious Library of Antiquity. Surviving a maddening maze only leads them to a final creature bent on ending their little quest posthaste. And their only way out is through this monster…or death.

“Wow!… Can’t wait for book four!”
“…Can’t wait for next book… or first movie!”

Finally, after solving the puzzle that was Dragma’s Keep and fighting their way through the subsurface labyrinth that comprised the Library of Antiquity, our heroes have proof that the artifact they need to return their god to the Land indeed does exist: Valdaar’s Fist–the sword of a God. But to get it, they must brace for their toughest challenge yet: ridding Ardaagh of its infestation of undead. Zombies, skeletons, ghosts, ghouls, and a powerful Lich Lord stand between them and their sworn destiny.
Done? Hardly. Sordaak and his companions must then find a way to wrench the staff that haunts his dreams from the cold, dead fingers of the most powerful servant of Set in the Land–his sister…

“…fourth and most engaging… in series…”
“…whole series is a MUST READ!!!”
“…Original! … Unique characters… Wish I could give it 10 stars.”
The Platinum Dragon (Valdaar’s Fist, Book 4)
Valdaar’s Fist.
Forged by mortals.

Or was it?
The final chapter in this saga takes up where Ice Homme left off. Our heroes now have the required implements to raise their god–save one: Valdaar’s Fist, the sword of that god. But, at least they now know what they have to do to get it: slay the most powerful creature to walk the land for the past ten thousand years – Bahamut, Lord of the Dragons.
This is the thrilling conclusion to Valdaar’s Fist saga that fans have been waiting for!

“…Story is well written… Appreciate how each character developed…”
“I really liked this book… Opposing viewpoint for the first series… Few authors would have the daring to attempt such a story”
“5 star. Live and Learn… well worth the read!”
Live & Learn – Defense of the Land, Book 1 (Valdaar’s Fist, Book 5)
This is Book One of the Defense of the Land series, and the fifth book in the Valdaar’s Fist saga.
In the age old struggle of good v. evil, who gets to decide who—or what—is good?
Can a beautiful, goody-two-shoes paladin knowingly consort with an assassin? Depends on how desperate the assassin is…
Jaramiile throws her sword in with five others to stop the scourge of evil that has been reborn in The Land. Yet can she face her god when one of her companions admits to being hired to slay another? What if the target is her sworn enemy? To further confuse the matter, the assassin has skills their party needs—and he is very handsome…
Come along on yet another magical ride as Vance Pumphrey weaves the Valdaar’s Fist tale from another perspective—those who would stop the raising of the dark god.

“Excellent build on the story. Can’t wait for the next chapter”
“Very enjoyable read… Characters continue to evolve… Really looking forward to volume 7”
“Just absolutely loved the story and can’t wait for the next one!”
Die & Don’t – Defense of The Land, Book 2 (Valdaar’s Fist, Book 6)
The friends one keeps. How can those dedicated in the service to their god possibly look their deity in the eye knowing they have made alliances with those in the service of another?
Twists and turns. Vance Pumphrey has become a master at surprising us with the unexpected. Yet this new volume throws alliances, debts, servitude and relationships into a quandary of tangled webs and unforeseen outcomes. Hang on to your butts, it’s about to get deep!
Can Jaramiile suppress her sworn teachings and lead this rag-tag band adepts of Praxaar and mercenaries into the face of near certain death? Or, possibly more importantly, can she lead them away when required?
Overmatched and outnumbered at every turn, can Jaramiile suppress her own doubts enough to lead friends and foes alike into a maelstrom from which none of them may return?
In Vance Pumphrey’s books, things are seldom what they seem. The scourge of evil has many faces, some of which appear to serve either side of the fence. Or none….

“All I can say is WOW!!! Can’t wait to see where the next story takes us!”
“I have read all the books in the series… Loved how you didn’t know what was coming next… Look forward to the next book…”
“You did it again! … Loved the book… Kept me intrigued all the way through.”
All Is Fair – Defense of the Land, Book 3 (Valdaar’s Fist, Book 7)
Have you sorted out who is good and who is evil yet? Neither have those in the third installment of the Defense of The Land series. The balance of power has shifted like the sands in an hourglass. Those who worship the Dark God, Valdaar, gain strength daily while those who support the God of Light, Praxaar, face uncertainty as to their convictions.
Now the shifting sands grow ever shorter. Those that Jaramiile must stop have all but one piece of the puzzle required to return their god to The Land. That must not be allowed to happen.
Yet doubt weaves its tendrils into Jaramiile’s very being, augmented by forbidden visions of a man she has met only once. And the beautiful sorceress Shaarna knows that her brother’s abilities far exceed her own, but her resolve to stop him from raising the Dark God remains undaunted. Complications arise as similar doubts boil to the surface of her soul. Does she even want to stop him? Why?
Who is Good? What is Evil? Is there really a difference…

Forged Alliances Series – Land’s End, Book 1 (Valdaar’s Fist, Book 8)
Can a god be slain? If so, where does their ‘soul’ go? Forged Alliances is the story of a people who witness the rebirth of their god. A rebirth long anticipated by some, long lamented by others. For that second group, death will be the easy part…
“…very good! …Page turner!”
“I have read all the books… Hardest part is waiting for the next”
“Crazy shift in dynamics… Foes become allies… And new and old foes arise. Loved it!”

Husband, Father, Author. Retired US Navy, Submarines. Now I’m retired from my ‘after Navy’ projects: Maintenance Manager at a plastics plant in the DFW area and Plant Engineer at a glass plant in the Seattle area. I’m married to my wonderful wife of 40+ years, father to two great sons and grandpa to three awesome grandkids. I coached both boys through the select baseball world in Texas and South Carolina for 18 years and now they’ve moved on to wives and lives of their own.
I write to give the voices in my head an audience. My books are Dungeons & Dragons based Adult Epic Fantasy – with a twist, or twists. My roots lie in Westerns (Louis L’Amour), Action Adventure (Cussler & Clancy), Fantasy/Science Fiction (Donaldson, Brooks, Eddings, and of course, Tolkien) and some general fiction (Archer, Uris, Michener). Plus many other genres that are difficult to place. My words are influenced by many of these masters of the craft.
Valdaar’s Fist is an overall story arc that will eventually contain three separate, but related, series’ totaling ten books. The first series of four books and the second of three are complete and I’m well underway in the third with the first book published and the second around near the halfway mark. I also have several ‘history’ or back story books for the story arc outlined once I finish the primary ten.
There are more books and more series’ trying to escape my brain, but I must finish Valdaar’s Fist first. Come along for the ride and meet powerful sorcerers, steadfast paladins, wily rogues, pious clerics, fierce fighters and…dragons. In here there be dragons!
